I am currently finishing up my third year of college. Many of you already know that my major is Secondary Social Studies education with an emphasis in history, and with a Human Relations minor. I am working my ass off for this education, and couldn't be more excited for what I'm going to be doing for the rest of my life. I'm obviously not doing it for the money, since teachers make a pathetic $35-50,000 a year, while professional sports players and actors make millions. Doesn't that seem a little wrong to you? Aren't teachers the most important job there is? It pisses me right the f@#$ off. Seriously.
So, on top of all of that bullshit, Minnesota legislature is trying to pass a bill that would allow people to get their teacher's licensure in 5 weeks, lowering teacher standards. Why do they think this is a good idea? Don't they want their kids to be taught by teachers who are well prepared, and who KNOW what they are talking about? Additionally, it will make it even more difficult than it already is for teachers who do have an ACTUAL education to find a job because no one wants to pay teachers what they deserve. Schools would rather hire an unexperienced teacher who they can pay less, than an educated teacher who they would have to pay more. I AM SO PISSED.
If any of you care,
here is a link that goes a little more into detail about the bill. If any of you are from Minnesota, there is a link on the website to email the legislators. Please do it if you have the time.
I'm sorry to write such a negative post, but I feel so strongly about this topic.
Are any of you teachers? How do you deal with all of the crap that comes with such an amazing occupation?
